Connie Britton talks diet, age, beauty as NewBeauty's Summer/Fall cover girl

"NewBeauty's" Summer/Fall 2015 issue is on newsstands now and boasts the beautiful Connie Britton, star of ABC’s hit show "Nashville," on the cover. In the issue, Britton shares the biggest beauty mistake she’s ever made, what her mother taught her and why she loves being 40+.

Connie Britton at the Golden Globes 2013.

“I am really happy where I am," says Britton about being in her 40s. "Your 40s are a great decade to be in. You sort of live your whole life worrying about the "Big 40." But, for me, it is a full and fruitful time. My body is still in good shape, but it’s more about the wisdom for me. If you serve your spirit, all of a sudden at this age, life is less scary, less overwhelming. Maybe that’s the whole secret to life. It’s not that bad getting older, you can enjoy it."

Britton, who is currently working on "American Crime Story with Ryan Murphy" playing Faye Resnick discusses today's expectations for women’s beauty in the article: “Everything [people] see from Hollywood, on television, in movies and in magazines is doctored, it’s not real. I really don’t want to feed into that. The best advice I can give to any woman, or any young girl, or even my younger self, is to not give in to that pressure. Find your own value. Know your body. Know what works for you. There is so much pressure, but we do have a choice. It has to be your life you are living. I try to carry that philosophy into every aspect of my life.”

“I can go for days without washing my hair, and people freak out about that," Britton comments about her famous mane of hair. "It gets better from the natural oils that make it shiny and make it do what I want it to do.”

About dieting the actress, who is often seen on set with a salad when the rest of the cast is enjoying a catered meal, states, “My philosophy on life impacts my diet. I don’t want to create a vision of a woman who is starving herself, but I also like to feel good, so I tend to stick to certain healthy foods that do that. But, I love cake, and I eat it sometimes—even though I don’t always feel so great afterward.”

Britton moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2012 when she signed to star as Rayna Jaymes in the ABC musical drama "Nashville."

Macro Exfoliator -- Do It Yourself Dermabrasion at Home!

Around the turn of the 21st century I had skin cancer in patches all over my face. I had used a topical treatment called Efudex, Fluoroplex on one spot, and as the cream migrated, it revealed more cancer patches all over my face.  The Efudex caused my own body to identify and fight the cancer, and each spot became an open sore as the Efudex did its work.

When the treated cancerous spots healed, they left small scars about as deep as acne scars behind. I tried microdermabrasion creams, scrubs and chemical peels, but those over-the-counter products only remove the top layer of loose dead skin and do not provide deep exfoliation.

In an effort to remove the scars and smooth my skin, my dermatologist recommended I have a series of clinical dermabrasions done on my using a medical device. I had a couple of days downtime after each treatment as my face would be red and somewhat raw looking with  a greasy ointment applied by the dermatologist. Each treatment cost $150 some 12 years ago.

I don't know how much they would cost today, but I do know that for the price of just two dermabrasion treatments 12 years ago at my dermatologist, I can now achieve pretty dramatic results at home. Details coming soon!

Almost everyone is aware that photo-aging from too much sun accumulated through the years is the main cause of wrinkles, followed closely by smoking. The aging process itself leads to wrinkles and lines, but that process could be slowed dramatically by using a daily moisturizing sunscreen, not smoking and avoiding other causes of wrinkles.
