Britney Spears Talks About Skin Care

Pop singer Britney Spears just can't stop talking about her skin care. Whether it is Tweeting about it or telling InStyle Magazine about it, Spears has found her perfect skincare thanks to her mother, Lynn Spears, who is a skin care consultant.

In September of 2013, Spears blogged about the great Reverse and anti-aging skin care products her mother introduced her to.

More recently she told the Jan. 2014 issue of InStyle magazine she was "obsessed" with her skin care and these great products, especially the Exfoliator.

Spears is the 32-year-old mother of two, and yet her skin is youthful and glowing.

'Tis the season for chapped lips: top 7 tips for caring for winter lips - Nashville Skin, Health & Beauty Examiner

I have suffered from dry, burning, easily chapped lips most of my life. I have kept chapstick and petroleum jelly, Blistex and lip treatments on hand off and on my entire adult life but have never been able to conquer my chapped lip problems until the past two years.

The following article is based upon my own research and experience with chapped lips over the course of my lifetime and how I finally cured them to get healthy lips. I will reveal here, however, that the best thing I have found for my lips and what has restored them to fuller, healthier lips is this peptide and antioxidant-rich lip serum.

'Tis the season for chapped lips: top 7 tips for caring for winter lips

The skin on lips is so thin, this area is highly sensitive and particularly vulnerable to showing signs of dryness and aging. Because of the drier, windier and colder conditions, winter can punish your lips, causing drying and chapping and sometimes painful cracking and peeling, also known as Cheilitis.

Dermatologists Offer Tips for Color-Treated Hair

While coloring your hair is a common beauty treatment, the process can leave your hair dry and brittle. Fortunately, dermatologists, who are experts in the care of the skin, hair and nails, offer tips for coloring and perming your hair while keeping it healthy.
“When dyeing your hair, consider choosing a dye that is darker rather than lighter than your natural color to minimize hair damage,” said board-certified dermatologist Paradi Mirmirani, MD, FAAD, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. “If you choose to go lighter, select a dye within three shades of your natural color as lightening more than three shades requires higher volumes of peroxide, which is harmful to the hair.”
Dr. Mirmirani shares more tips for healthy hair when using hair treatments:
  1. Test store-bought hair color before using. Follow manufacturer’s instructions. If you develop a rash or redness, swelling, burning or itching, you are having an allergic reaction to the die. Do not dye your hair and consult your dermatologist for further allergy testing.

  2. Protect your hair from the sun. The sun can make your hair weak, dry, rough, faded and brittle. This is especially true if you dye, bleach or perm your hair. Wear a wide-brimmed hat when you go outside.

  3. Use caution when perming hair to prevent long-lasting damage. Set a timer to know when you should rinse the perm solution. Always follow package instructions. If you experience excessive stinging and burning while the perm solution is on your scalp, wash it off immediately and consult your dermatologist.
“A board-certified dermatologist can answer any questions people have about hair damage or unexplained hair loss,” said Dr. Mirmirani.
These tips are demonstrated in “Coloring and Perming Tips for Healthier-Looking Hair,” a video posted to the Academy website and the Academy’s YouTube channel. This video is part of the Dermatology A to Z: Video Series, which offers relatable videos that demonstrate tips people can use to properly care for their skin, hair and nails. A new video in the series posts to the Academy’s website and YouTube channel each month.

Beauty School: Walgreens beauty advisors attend Nov. workshop in Nashville - Nashville Skin, Health & Beauty Examiner

Walgreens beauty advisors attend November Nashville workshop

If you have ever wondered what kind of training the beauty advisors in the Cosmetics Department get at Walgreens drug stores, you might be surprised to learn training is a priority. Beauty advisors not only must complete monthly online training in cosmetics, beauty products, personal hygiene, hair and nail care and other related topics to receive certificates in each field, but occasionally they go to local district offices for more advanced training.

While it isn't an in-depth look at ingredients, clinical trials and how medicated skin care products work, the Walgreens beauty advisors learn their product lines as well as tips on how to use the various cosmetics products. I had the opportunity to attend a recent Beauty Advisors Workshop and jumped at the chance.

Don't Fall into Bad Skin & Health Habits as Summer Ends

We not only change our clocks as they "fall back" an hour, but after an active summer, fall often signals a return to a more sedentary and less healthy lifestyle. In addition, while summer and sunscreen go hand in hand, often cooler weather means we forget to protect our skin. As we enter the final days of summer and contemplate changing our clocks back in the fall, don't fall back into bad health habits.

Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Tim Chase on The Best and Worst Halloween Candies for Halloween

Trick or treat! Halloween is almost here!

The Best and Worst Halloween Candies to Eat for a Healthy Smile

NYC cosmetic dentist, Dr. Tim Chase talks about the best and worst Halloween candies to eat to keep a healthy smile.

With Halloween right around the corner, it is that time of the year again: scares and thrills around every corner.  Children are scared of scary movies, ghost stories, and scary costumes, and parents are scared of all the candy their kids will bring home.  Tiny candies in the doctor’s office or the workplace start to pop up and we cannot help but indulge ourselves in these sugary treats.  There is nothing wrong with a few indulgences, however, not all Halloween candy is created equally.  When it comes to healthy teeth, certain candies can be completely detrimental to your smile, while others are less of a threat.  According to Dr. Timothy Chase, a 20-year veteran of cosmetic dentistry, a healthy smile, white teeth and healthy gums can take 10 years off your appearance.

Dr. Chase, D.M.D., is a practicing partner in SmilesNY, a leading cosmetic dentistry practice in New York City.  He has made it his life’s work to educate patients about the significance of possessing a healthy smile as a critical indicator of overall health and wellness.

“Some people do not realize how important it can be to take care of your teeth,” says Dr. Chase.  “Not only does a healthy smile make you look and feel better, but, dental health issues have been linked to systemic problems like heart and kidney issues and low birth weight in babies.”

Brushing and flossing are not always enough to keep your teeth healthy.  What you eat and what you do not eat can be a huge factor in how healthy your teeth are.  Keep your teeth in mind this Halloween season with Dr. Chase’s tips on best and worst Halloween candies to eat:
Candies Ranging from Worst to not so bad in terms of teeth health:

  • Taffy and candies filled with caramel, coconut, or nuts are the worst kinds of candy for teeth because they stick to everything inside of your mouth, including the grooves of your teeth.  The longer a food sticks to your teeth, the longer bacteria can feed on it – which could produce cavity-causing acid.
  • Hard candy such as lollipops or jawbreakers, are the second worst candies to be munching on.  Although they do not stick to your mouth, they take a long time to dissolve.  The longer a food stays in your mouth, the more acidic the environment becomes.
  • Sour candy is also bad for your teeth because it has a higher acidic content, which can break down tooth enamel.
  • While Powdery Candy such as Pixie Stix dissolve quickly in the mouth and don’t require chewing, they contain nothing but sugar and can lead to cavities by changing the mouths PH and giving bacteria straight sugar to eat.
  • Chocolate, with no sticky fillings, will generally not stick to your teeth and therefore it is a much better option if you have the urge for a sweet snack.
  • Sugar-free gum may be the best treat this Halloween season because it leaves no sticky residue, which causes plaque, and it is sweetened with xylitol – a natural sugar the bacteria is unable to form plaque on.
  • Of course….If possible it would be much better to put down the candy and grab a piece of fruit.

“Brightening your appearance by creating a healthy smile is not as daunting a task as people think,” says Chase.  “It is an extremely important factor in one’s overall health and it should not be overlooked.”

The primary service offered by Dr. Chase and his colleagues is Smile Design, an array of  preventative and restorative services including: teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, invisible braces, cosmetic bonding, tooth colored fillings, porcelain crowns, bridges, dental implants, periodontal services, full-mouth restoration, TMJ therapy and sports dentistry.

How to Help Your Lips This Fall & Winter

My lips before and 5 days after using the Lip Renewing Serum with roller

With cooler weather and autumn activities here, now is the time to get your lips in shape for colder, dryer fall and winter weather.

The Lip Renewing Serum dramatically changed my lips a bit over a year ago. From the time I was in college (maybe earlier), I have suffered with dry, flaking skin on my lips so that I rarely wore lipstick because it would cake around my dry... skin and make it worse. My lips would frequently sting and burn all year long, and chapstick, vaseline, lip gloss, etc. only seemed to aggravate them.

The
Lip Renewing Serum rebuilds collagen, moisturizes, heals, soothes and plumps the lips while it rebuilds the vermilion border. On the rare days I didn't use it this summer, I still had no problems because my healthy lips are in such great shape now. I had the best winter of my life lip-wise last year with no rough, torn, burning chapped skin. I highly recommend this Lip Renewing Serum. It works faster and better when combined with the micro-needle skin roller, re-launching in January 2014.
