Fashion and History Collide at Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times

Cheekwood Botanical Gardens is hosting the lavish Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times exhibit, and it will appeal to fashion lovers and history buffs alike, as well as fans of the popular television series.

The beautiful costumes are displayed in the historic rooms of Cheekwood Mansion which has been restored to its glory days in the 1930s. Guides make sure visitors learn about the fabrics and embellishments used in the historically accurate fashions worn on the show. Changing hemlines are noted as well as tapering skirts and dropped or raised waists.

In addition to the garments, there are enlarged photos from "Downton Abbey" hanging on the walls. These photographs are often paired with photos of the Cheek family in similar garments which gives the display a distinctly Nashville flavor and neatly ties the fashions into the history of the mansion.

Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times runs from June 17 through September 10, 2017 at Cheekwood Mansion in the Belle Meade area of Nashville.
