Ice Carrats Freshwater Cultured Black Pearl Bracelet--a Review

 

For Christmas 2020, we decided to give cultured pearls as gifts. My husband gave his mother a beautiful strand of black pearls several years ago, so we thought it would be nice to follow that up with a matching black freshwater cultured pearl bracelet this year. Since she lives in a different state, we turned to Amazon.

We found what looked like the perfect bracelet from Ice Carrats for $31. Then we found a set of five genuine freshwater cultured pearl bracelets in various shades for much less-- around $11. The set included a black pearl bracelet which would match my own necklace of black pearls. 

When the bracelets arrived, I was surprised to find noticeable scratches on 2 or 3 of the pearls on the Ice Carrats bracelet. Since we barely had time to ship in time for Christmas, I didn't suggest we try a return. The cheaper black pearl bracelet was beautiful. 

Sometimes a higher-priced item is not worth the money. This was the case with the Ice Carrats bracelet.

I give the Ice Carrats freshwater cultured pearl bracelet 3 out of 5 stars. It was a pretty bracelet if you didn't notice the flaws, but it was expensive for the value.

I give the generic set of 5 freshwater cultured pearl bracelets 5 stars for attractive bracelets with a nice finish at a great price.

Beautiful Intrigue Locket from Brighton Is Stunning--a Review

 

The Intrigue line of jewelry from Brighton is one of my top favorites. I like it so much I have a small Intrigue necklace, matching earrings and the Intrigue bracelet. A combination of mixed metals--gold and silver--with an intricate design and Swarovski crystals, makes each piece versatile as well as beautiful.

This Intrigue necklace is so pretty, I am giving it 5 stars for beauty, versatility, and design, even though I think it is a bit overpriced. The locket is stunning and that almost makes the price worth every penny.

Skechers Shindigs Women's Boots--a Review

 

Skechers has once again delivered an excellent product. Regular readers of this blog will know I enjoy hiking for recreation and fitness, so when it was time for a new pair of hiking boots, I thought of Skechers. This time instead of ordering from Skechers website directly, these boots came from Amazon. Amazon has a good selection of Skechers Shindigs women's boots at reasonable prices. I was not disappointed.

The chocolate leather Shindigs boots I ordered are lightweight, comfortable and sturdy. Mine go above the ankles for extra support when hiking the trails or walking the dog. The chocolate brown color is great with just about anything. 

The Skechers Shindig line comes with classic rubber-traction outer sole design and a comfy air-cooled memory foam insole. The boots come in shoe-boot height as well as above the ankle like mine and are available in both leather and suede.

It's little wonder that the boots score a 5 out of 5 stars on the Skechers site. That's exactly what I rate them. Five stars for an attractive leather boot that is lightweight, sturdy and comfortable at a decent price.

Vision-Related Problems from COVID-19 Can Be Minimized with Good Eye Care

The impact of COVID-19 can extend to our vision. Staying up-to-date with eye care checkups is critical, particularly for those in high-risk groups and those already battling ocular diseases. 

About 30 percent of those diagnosed with COVID-19 experience conjunctivitis (an eye infection), and countless others with ocular diseases that require ongoing evaluation and treatment are skipping their checkups out of fears of contracting COVID-19.

The pandemic has changed the way many people visit their doctors. However, it is important to stay up-to-date with our vision exams, particularly for those with conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy that could lead to blindness if left unchecked. Those in high-risk categories should add eye protection such as glasses or face shields to protect their eyes from virus infection along with wearing masks and washing hands frequently when visiting public places.

 

People also need to know, even though there are many concerns about COVID-19, common-sense precautions can significantly reduce the risk of infection.  Dr. Daniel Laroche, Director of Glaucoma Services and President of Advanced Eyecare of New York, says, “Wash hands frequently, follow good contact lens hygiene and avoid rubbing or touching our mouth, nose and especially our eyes.''  

 

The COVID-19 pandemic has also changed the way people visit their doctors. For patients over 60, Dr. Laroche advises it's better to stay home and do telehealth over the phone or video consultation until the pandemic flattens. He also encourages people to wear face masks on visits and maintain social distancing, even if they are in a health clinic.

By protecting the eyes, people will reduce the chance of blindness and vision loss while also staying on top of any developing eye diseases, such as glaucoma and cataracts. A healthy brain function requires a healthy vision. The brain is our most essential organ, and it allows us to control other organs. Normal and healthy vision contributes to improved learning and comprehension for a better quality of life.”
