ASK KATHRYN: What is Multi-Med Therapy and How Does It Work?

You may have heard me refer to Multi-Med Therapy when referring to the products I represent. If you are wondering what exactly Multi-Med Therapy means and how it works, here is some info you will enjoy!

Multi-Med Therapy is a system of usually 2, 3, or 4 products used together. It combines the right ingredients, in the right formulations and in the right order to achieve the best results.

For instance, our regimen for age spots contains skin lightening ingredients which brighten dull skin, improve tone and texture, and add radiance to the skin. The Reverse regimen exfoliates skin to remove dead skin cells to assist cell turnover and remove dullness. It also protects against future sun damage with the Reverse broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen. Using the products together as a regimen will lighten excessive darkness to reduce and even eliminate brown spots, and uneven pigment.

Our other regimens work in a similar way. Specific ingredients are layered in such a fashion that they enhance the strength and effectiveness of the other ingredients. All ingredients and combinations of ingredients are tested for safety and efficacy so you know you are getting the best ingredients, applied in the right order, and formulated to work together for maximum effectiveness. That's how Multi-Med Therapy works!

However, some ingredients can cancel out the effectiveness of other ingredients or even make them mildly toxic. The skincare industry is unregulated except for products designated as "premium" skincare. That's why it is important to buy from a company you trust and always make sure you are buying clinically tested, regulated, premium skincare products.

Exclusive mystery skin care product from leading dermatologist to be announced this week

A leading skin care company is about to make a major product breakthrough announcement that has the skin care industry buzzing. Rodan + Fields Dermatologists will do their Big Reveal at the national convention in Atlanta this weekend.

Dr. Katie Rodan and her business partner, Dr. Kathy Fields, made history in the 1990s when they developed the first multi-med therapy for acne — Proactiv.

Then the doctors, both now women in the 50s, decided to turn their attention to the problems of aging skin. They created four main regimens: REDEFINE to address wrinkles and lines; REVERSE to address age spots and melasma; SOOTHE to treat sensitive skin and rosacea; and UNBLEMISH to treat adult acne and cystic acne.

The new anti-aging skin care product has already been enthusiastically received by beauty editors whose stories should break in October issues in time to coincide with the coming product announcement.

Rodan + Fields Occlusion Therapy for Dark Spots & Hyperpigmentation | Skin Health Beauty

Do you have brown spots, melasma, age spots, or other forms of hyperpigmentstion? This article reveals a special beauty secret for treating stubborn dark marks on the skin!
Rodan + Fields Occlusion Therapy for Dark Spots & Hyperpigmentation

Years of sun bathing, using tanning beds or even the incidental sun exposure of 20 minutes a day outdoors without sunscreen can result in sun damage with unsightly changes to the skin’s pigmentation. The skin begins to look dull, with dark marks, age spots, melasma and other hyperpigmentation. If you sunbathe too often, you might even develop “tanorexic mom” skin.

Rodan + Fields Dermatologists has the solution -- occlusion therapy using the Reverse Regimen. Find out more about occlusion therapy HERE

Occlusion Therapy: Treatment for Hard-to-Remove Dark Spots

My "before" photo showing the dark spots I treated with Reverse

The sun takes its toll on our skin. In fact, photoaging from the sun causes 80% of the signs of aging to our skin.

Sun bathing, tanning beds and sun exposure of 20 minutes a day outdoors without sunscreen can result in skin appearing dull, with dark marks, age spots or melasma, also known as liver spots and hyperpigmentation.

The sun causes your skin to protect itself by producing melanin. This dark pigment is in several layers of skin and what you see on the surface of the skin is the tip of the iceberg. Much more pigment lurks below the surface. This dark pigment below the surface may not be visible yet, but it already is making the skin duller and less reflective. And over time, the darker color will rise to the surface as more and more age spots appear.

Those stubborn spots take more time and treatment. That's why I recommend the REVERSE Regimen.

Changes happen slowly over time making it difficult to see all of the great changes that your skin is making. The longer you use the products, the more visible the results will be.

I recommend taking before and after photos comparing skin after using the REVERSE Regimen twice a day for at least 60 days. Be sure to follow directions and be consistent with using all the products over your entire face, neck, décolleté, and/or hands. Each step builds on the next to both treat and help prevent abnormal pigmentation.

If you are struggling with hard-to-treat dark marks, here is a great tip for you.

OCCLUSION THERAPY

1) Deep Exfoliating Wash: Wet skin with lukewarm water. Using fingertips, gently and evenly massage a quarter-sized amount onto entire face for 30-60 seconds, avoiding contact with eyes.  Rinse thoroughly; pat dry. Use once every other day and increase to twice daily as tolerated.
2) Skin Lightening Toner: Apply evenly to entire face with a fresh gauze pad, avoiding the eye area. Do not rinse off.   Allow to dry. Use once every other day and increase to twice daily as tolerated.
3) Skin Lightening Treatment: Apply a generous dime-sized amount evenly over the entire face, morning and evening, avoiding the eye area. Allow treatment to penetrate skin. Do not rinse off. Use once every other day and increase to twice daily as tolerated.
4) Now apply extra Skin Lightening Treatment over stubborn dark marks. Cut or tear plastic or saran wrap or plastic wrap and lay it over the extra layer of Skin Lightening Treatment. Let it set for 2 hours.
5) Remove plastic wrap, blend in the Skin Lightening Treatment and continue with any other products that you use in the morning or evening.
Do this treatment 2 hours a day, 5 days a week for 2 weeks.
For those stubborn marks that do not lighten, you may need to see a dermatologist.

What is Rodan + Fields Reverse and how does Reverse MultiMed therapy work?

Reverse is a complete Multi-Med therapy skincare system created by the dermatologists at Rodan + Fields which combines prescription medicines at non-prescription strength with active cosmetic ingredients to repair and protect hyper-pigmented, sun-damaged skin. Reverse is used to treat people with age spots, hormonal patchiness and melasma.

Reverse for Hyperpigmentation, Sun Spots, Age Spots, Liver Spots, Lentigines & Melasma
Over the course of our lives, sun bathing, tanning beds and repeated sun exposure without sunscreen can make skin dull and leave sun spots, age spots, liver spots, hyperpigmentation, lentigines or melasma by the time we are in our late twenties and older. The accumulated dark pigment is several layers deep into the skin. Over time, these layers of dark pigments begin to appear on the surface of the skin, but much more dark pigment is below the surface. A black light can reveal the next layer of dark pigmentation.

Reverse Multi-Med Therapy
The Reverse MultiMed Therapy regime combines the right ingredients, in the right formulations and in the right order to lighten excessive darkness, brown spots, and uneven pigment. The Reverse MultiMed regime contains skin lightening ingredients including hydroquinone which brighten dull skin, improve tone and texture, and add radiance to the skin. The Reverse regime exfoliates skin to remove dead skin cells to assist cell turnover and remove dullness. It also protects against future sun damage with the Reverse broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen.

Reverse Regime Results
With continued use, the Reverse regime helps skin look more clear and luminous over time, doing away with the need to wear foundation. Over weeks to months the multi-med combination of medicines and active cosmetics have been clinically proven to reduce discoloration, dullness, and dark marks. While everyone's skin is different, most people achieve maximum benefit and see a more radiant, youthful complexion within 2-6 months, depending on how severe the original discoloration was. The goal of the Reverse regime is to get the skin's tone back to it's original tone so that customers no longer need to wear foundation. At that point use of the Reverse cream can be discontinued.

Reverse - Aventura Magazine’s Best of Beauty Choice Award
The Reverse Regimen won Aventura Magazine’s Best of Beauty Choice Awards for Best brown spot remedy and is Recognized on Allure Magazine’s A List.
